Manifesting is simple – not always easy, but simple: if you feel good, if your thoughts are positive, then you’re attracting towards you what you want; if you feel negative, worried, tense, afraid – then you are drawing to you things that you don’t want. As simple as that.
It’s not your thoughts that create and attract things in your life. It’s not your words, it’s not the images in your head. These are only tools – powerful, yes, but still tools – that help you focus your attention to what you want to attract. What actually does the manifesting is the vibration that your being has – more precisely, the frequency that you’re vibrating at. You can influence that frequency by changing your thoughts and emotions to match the frequency of what you want to manifest, but that’s only a part of it.
Conscious Mind and Subconscious Mind
Our mind is a powerful thing. It’s like a huge computer – perhaps the greatest one ever – that stores and processes every single one of our thoughts (and it does a massive amount of other work at the same time). Only, just like a computer, there’s a part that we can see and work with directly, and a much bigger part that works in the background. And when that background part is somehow misaligned, we get in trouble.
The conscious mind is easy to understand: it’s logical, intelligent, and it’s the commanding part (the “enter” button, if you like). The role of your conscious mind in manifesting is simple: it has to decide what you want, and how you’ll go about getting it.
The subconscious mind, on the other hand, likes to take orders from the conscious mind – which is great, because the subconscious is much more powerful than the conscious, but it’s a raw power which learns things by repetition: if something is repeated enough times, your subconscious will understand it like this: “OK, this is repeating, so that means it must be important. I’ll take it as true from now on.”
In other words, your subconscious doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong, it makes no judgement, it doesn’t understand the concepts of past and future – everything in it exists now, and the priorities go to the things that have impressed the most.
So, why is that a problem?
Well, it’s unconscious, and it’s stubborn. Yes, it will gladly take commands from the conscious part, but only as long as it agrees with the logic behind them. If what the subconscious has learned to be true doesn’t match the intention of your conscious – you can say goodbye to the fulfillment of that order. Not gonna happen. And it may even break the machine in the process, if you insist on giving the same command before you fix the background processes (making the gap between the two parts of your mind even bigger and more difficult to bypass).
How Your Subconscious Thoughts and Beliefs Affect Your Manifesting
As we already said, in order to manifest something, you need to adjust your frequency to match it. Your whole being must broadcast the certainty and gratefulness, because manifesting is actually just waiting for your reality to come to you, and taking it when it does.
So, when your belief in what you’re attracting is backed 100% by your conscious focusing efforts (repeating positive affirmations, creating and focusing on vision boards, using mental imagery, looking for opportunities and acting on them, etc), by the positive excitement and expectation, by the power of your subconscious mind – you’re tuned in with what you want, and there’s no other option – there simply isn’t – but for it to become a part of your reality.
When something is missing from the picture, the manifesting won’t happen. Or if one part is sending a different message, you’ll get a different result.
We have already talked about how the emotions affect manifesting. The subconscious beliefs work in a similar way: if they’re OK with what you’re consciously pursuing, they’ll back it up with enormous power, fueling in turn the emotions and enhancing your focus even more; if they’re not OK with it, then they’ll just kick your conscious thoughts right back out, thus not getting in tune with the rest of your being, and probably causing some emotional mess along the way.
What Exactly It Can Look Like
Your subconscious can “learn” all sorts of things through repetition: something that your parents or people close to you used to say often, something in their behavior toward you or others that kept repeating… With some of these things you consciously agree, with others you don’t.
If your subconscious has learned that something you’re consciously pursuing is bad for you, or unattainable for some reason, it won’t allow you to get it without putting up a fight. Some examples of how your subconscious can sabotage your manifesting:
- if it learns that money is evil, that rich people are bad, that no great wealth can be created honestly etc – you will have a hard time manifesting any significant amount of money, because your subconscious doesn’t want you to turn evil.
- if it learns that sex is wrong, that all men are bastards, that they’ll only use you and leave you, your efforts for manifesting a romantic partner will be in vain, because your subconscious will want to stop you from being hurt.
- if it learns that you’re not good enough, that you can’t do anything right, that you’re not worthy of love, happiness, wealth etc – it will prevent you from getting any of the good things because it doesn’t believe that you deserve them.
What You Can Do About It
Well, the first thing you need to do is to became aware of your subconscious talk. Many times it’s buried deep down, you don’t even know it’s there, and you just keep on doing “all the right things” and trying to manifest what you want without even knowing that your own mind is sabotaging you. So you need to release all those negative thoughts and beliefs, to chase them out to the surface and to deal with them where you can “see” them.
Other times, as we mentioned before, it may cause a deep disturbance in your being if you’re trying to force it to accept something that it perceives as an obvious lie. That’s why you should approach changing the negative subconscious patterns slowly and carefully, and to learn as much as you can about it before you start the process.
So, the first step is to release the negative self-talk. Sometimes it will be enough to free yourself from it, if it’s a minor issue that only needs you to become aware of how ridiculous it is (see the example of the woman who is trying to manifest her new car in the linked article). If it’s not enough, then the next step is fixing the negative thinking patterns to set you free.
Once you get these issues fixed, manifesting will be a piece of cake 🙂
